Thomas B. Powers, SAMS® AMS®
Principal Marine Surveyor
It is important to have the vessel as accessible as possible. Have all documentation and ships papers on board. Have lockers as empty as possible. If sails are part of the survey have them handy for inspection outside of the boat. Unlock all compartments. Arrangements should be made to haul the boat for bottom inspection and a captain retained for sea trials. If inspection requires minor removal and replacement of panels and parts it should be done by a qualified boat mechanic.|
In wooden boats spot removal of fasteners for corrosion inspection may be required.
Permission in writing from the owner may be necessary for boarding.
Remember the surveyor works only for the person asking for the survey. We are there to protect your interests. The survey we produce is exclusively yours.
